Maccath.com was created in May 2006 when I used it as a placeholder for my then main World of Warcraft character - a level 60 human mage named Maccath on Azjol-Nerub EU (now a level 70 human mage named Maccathh on Turalyon EU). I wrote a short description of her below an image and linked to her guild and armory webpages. Later, just after the release of The Burning Crusade expansion I decided to turn Maccath.com into a blog from the perspective of the in-game character herself. Yes, I am roleplaying.
After a while I encountered trouble in my guild and wanted to stop playing Maccath. Instead of quitting playing altogether I made a new character on a new realm (Turalyon EU) with the same name; a Blood Elf warlock (see Maccath's armory page). I closed Maccath.com for the time being. When the release date for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion was announced I decided to re-open Maccath.com to co-incide with its launch. I have been actively writing on the current version of Maccath.com since October 2008.
World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) created by Blizzard Entertainment as a sequel to its popular games set in the Warcraft fantasy universe (starting with Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, 1994 - a real-time strategy game). World of Warcraft is a fantasy adventure game wherein you play a hero of your choice to help 'save the world from ultimate disaster'; or at least try. You can find out all information about the Warcraft universe and all the books and games at WoWWiki. Any information pertaining to the Warcraft universe written on this site (excluding what's written on this page) is written from the perspective of my in-game character (which is a Blood Elf warlock).
The game is simple - you choose a character to play which has a race and a class. Which race you play will determine which faction you are sided with (Horde - the 'bad' guys, or Alliance - the 'good' guys) and base statistics (Tauren are a bit more robust than Blood Elves!). Which class you play will determine how your character will battle and what armour, weapons and abilities it will be able to use. For example, a hunter will use bow and arrow and tame beasts to fight for them, a warrior will have unpenetrable armour, rogues 'do it from behind', and mages and warlocks will use powerful magic to defeat their foe but are very weak physically.
As you explore the land, complete various tasks and slay enemies you gain experience and level up. As you level up you become more powerful and learn new abilities in order to progress through the world. The enemies you defeat may also drop armour items that you can equip to boost your statistics. The more powerful enemies in the game are hard to defeat and may require 'raids' of up to 40 players. In-game community is important and most people will choose to join a guild of players with whom they can team up to complete more arduous tasks.
I started playing the game on 28th August 2005 (5 years 214 days ago) and have consistently enjoyed it ever since. If you would like to play the game and don't mind starting out on European servers I currently have four referral codes available which come with free game time and special benefits for both of us - email me@maccath.com for more information.
